OMG

My linguistic practical question.....

1. Provide morphological evidence to help establish the following English homonyms as different words.

ail ale flour flower

air heir holy wholly

altar alter it’s its

boarder border metal mettle

bye by bye nose knows

cell sell pare pear pair

clause claws reign rain rein

complement compliment seize seas sees

2. Turkish Morphology

Isolate all the morphemes in the Turkish expressions below (Lewis, 1953) and state their meanings.

i) gelmek ‘to come’

ii) adamlarɨn ‘of the men’

iii) almazsɨn ‘you do not take’

iv) gelmezsiniz ‘you (PLURAL) do not come’

v) almamak ‘not to take’

vi) kɨzlardan ‘from the girls’

vii) ankarada ‘in Ankara

viii) gelsin ‘let him come’

ix) almayɨz ‘we do not take’

x) gelmem ‘I do not come’

xi) köprülere ‘to the bridges’

xii) gelmez ‘he does not come’

xiii) almazlar ‘they do not take’

xiv) adama ‘to the man’

xv) almak ‘to take’

xvi) evden ‘from the house’

xvii) alsɨnlar ‘let them take’
